Parenting Consults and Strategies for Responding to Challenging Behaviours

Are you struggling with your child’s behaviours?

Our online parent coaching sessions have been set-up specifically for parents, carers and care workers supporting children with challenging behaviours and complex developmental or relational needs. Parents/carers can book in for a one-off consult or a series of up to 6 x 1 hour sessions.

Service Overview

While there is an immense amount of parenting resources available online, parents, carers and care workers often find that the information available is confusing or contradictory and does not match the specific needs of their child. Many people have taken their approach to parenting from their own life experiences of being parented, and may find that it conflicts with their partners’ approach, does not work with their own children or a specific child, and upon reflection may find that did not address some of their own important needs when growing up.

Our Parent Coaching sessions provide consultation and tailored guidance for parents and carers, by matching practical evidence-based strategies to their child’s specific needs.

Topics may include:

  • Supporting children with anxiety
  • Navigating complex behaviours in adolescence such as self-harm and substance misuse.

How this service supports you

These sessions have been developed to provide online tailored guidance and education to parents/carers, and while this may include supporting clients to reflect on their own experiences of parenting or being parented, this support is time limited (maximum of 6 sessions) and has not been developed for the provision of ongoing counselling.

The purpose is to provide accessible, practical guidance, information and strategies for parents navigating challenging situations with their children.

It is not ongoing therapy

These sessions are not designed to provide ongoing counselling, psychotherapy, or clinical treatment. Individuals seeking therapeutic support will be encouraged to engage with an appropriate therapist or clinical service.

We do not provide Crisis intervention or emergency support

This service is designed for guidance, reflection, and support… but it isn’t set up to respond to urgent or high-risk situations.

If you or a child are in immediate danger, or there are serious safety concerns, it’s important to seek support from the appropriate crisis or emergency services.

This includes situations where:

  • a child or young person may be at immediate risk of harm
  • there are urgent safety concerns within the home
  • a child is expressing suicidal thoughts or behaviours
  • emergency services or child protection involvement is required

In these moments, reaching out to crisis or emergency supports will ensure you receive the level of care and response that’s needed right away.
